Dual Walled Tanks

Snosko’s Dual Walled Tanks operate as self-bunded tanks. They are designed to maximise the life of storage equipment used to store corrosive chemicals and offer an extra level of protection.

Their modular design allows them to be configured as a flat-based tank, or as a turnkey unit with a sloping/conical base, platform and ladder for roof access, filling points, and level indication. They can be fully disassembled for maintenance.

Product features

These products are covered by Australian Complete Patent Application Number 2022900989 owned by Snosko. They can be:

  • Fully disassembled for maintenance and inspection, meaning that in the case of a leak or spill, the inner tank can be removed from the outer tank and actioned accordingly
  • Configured to include side wall nozzle connections are fitted with patented expansion devices. These are designed to minimise stress due to thermal expansion and chemical attack, which increases reliability
  • Designed to suit Australian operating environments for ambient temperatures, wind, and earthquake loading with load rated hold down points
  • Designed with load rated lifting lugs for vertical and horizontal lifting (horizontal lifting lugs only included on large tanks)
  • Designed with a sloping and conical bases which allow for full drainage
  • Available in vented to atmosphere configurations or sealed configurations (which can be designed to operate at pressures up to ±10kPa)
  • Designed to include a range of mechanical level indicators, electrical level indicators, or level switches for critical applications
  • Coupled with Snosko’s Dual Walled Piping System, thereby ensuring the process line is dual contained at all points

Operational specifications

  • Capacities 3,800L to 42,600L
  • Sheet, nozzles, and welding rod all made from the homogenous grade material
  • Manufactured as per DVS guidelines (German code for plastics welding)
  • All lifting devices labelled with Safe Working Loads (SWLs)
  • Hold down points rated to specified earthquake and wind conditions
  • Atmospheric vents designed as per API2000

Material specifications

  • All wetted components to be thermoplastic (HDPE grade PE100, PP-H, U-PVC)
  • All steel components to be either hot dip galvanised or stainless steel grade 316
  • All dual wall seals to be EPDM

Chemical applications

Snosko’s Dual Walled Tanks are commonly used to store:

  • Sodium hypochlorite (bleach)
  • Hydrochloric acid
  • Sodium hydroxide (caustic)
  • Sulfuric acid
  • Oxygen scavengers (such as sodium metabisulphite)
  • Citric acid
  • Coagulants (such as poly-aluminium chloride)
  • Fluorosilicic acid
  • Wastewater
  • Sludge
  • Magnesium hydroxide

Case Study

Bulk Sodium Hydroxide Storage for an Australian Chemical Processing Facility

Snosko was asked to design and supply a solution to safely store 7,000L of sodium hydroxide for a chemical processing facility in Australia. Due to the critical nature of the site, the tank needed required leak detection options and the ability to be disassembled for maintenance.
